George started running in the fall of 1980 in order to loose weight. Initially he ran by himself in the evenings because back then there were no "learn to run groups". But as both his endurance and competence increased he started to run with a group out of the YMCA in Saint John, where there were no flat areas. In 1984 he completed his first marathon in Fredericton and since then he has run in a total of 27. He was fortunate to qualify for the Boston Marathon in 1987 and ran it in 1988. Since that time he has continued to run almost daily.
In 2000, George had the privilege of being asked to train the Joints In Motion (JIM) marathon team going to Dublin in October. This experience was most rewarding and lead him to six wonderful years of training approximately 150 runners. After leaving this opportunity George has continued to train runners of all levels of competence and does so in person and by email. In fact he has a group of six US Air Force officers that he is training to do the Athens marathon this fall.
